Avenues of Service

Rotarians categorise their efforts to give service into four main Avenues of Service. These are:

      • International - our International committee oversees the fund raising and donations for our project to assist communities in need in Myanmar, Philippines and Kenya.

      • Youth & Vocational - as the name suggests, this avenue of service focuses on initiatives aimed at building strength in our youth community.  It also focuses on how Rotary members bring the objectives of Rotary to life through their employment.  Activities undertaken here are visits to various places of employment and/or education (e.g. Aviation Industry Training Centre); business/community service mentoring support for the Victorian Police; Rotary Presents, an annual business networking luncheon; and, sponsoring youth exchange students/scholarships/participation in educational forums.

      • Fellowship - the objective of this avenue of service is to organise fun social events for Rotarian's and their guests.  Events typically include activities such as attending the theatre, restaurant nights, annual Christmas function, cup sweep, car rally, night at the races and county train trips.

      • Community - this avenue of service is focused on projects to assist the local community.  Over the years these projects have included over $100,000 raised to support for Cancer Research, purchase of a motor vehicle and computers for Caroline Chisholm Society (in partnership with Bendigo Community Bank), establishment and on-going support of Rowallan Scout Camp, funding the building of a pergola at one of Gelibrand Support Services special needs homes, construction of facilities in Queen's Park, establishment and on-going support of the Moonee Valley Children's traffic school and building premises for the RDNS..

      • Sponsorship & Marketing - this committee is tasked to ensure the Rotary Club of Essendon is consistently and professionally "branded" in all of our external activities.  It also aims to raise additional funds to support our local and international projects through sponsorship and advertising revenue.

These Avenues of Service remain central to the work of Rotary, ensuring that a Club’s service efforts are balanced and working to achieve all aspects of the Object of Rotary.

The Avenues of Service help Rotary Clubs remain focused on the main purpose of Rotary - Service Above Self.
