Royce Abbey Awards

The Purpose

The purpose of the Royce Abbey Awards is to encourage members who are relatively new to Rotary, to further develop and  benefit from using the talents they have demonstrated, in furthering the object of Rotary at Club, District and International level.

The Rotarian would be recognised in his or her early days of membership, as a willing participant in club activities.

More than 120 Royce Abbey Awards have been bestowed on Rotarians both domestically and internationally.

 The Benefits

        Assists to maintain membership

o     Member receives recognition for effort

o     Certificate and badge

        Funds raised support a long term overseas project

o     Further develops good international relations

        Supports Rotary Foundation

        Fits the four way test

The Royce and Jean Agricultural Fund

The Royce Abbey Award encourages clubs to contribute AUD$1000 through the Rotary International Foundation Permanent Fund to the Royce and Jean Abbey Agricultural Scholarship, a program which assists in the training of agricultural techniques (here in Australia), to young men and women from  developing countries. 

The Royce and Jean Abbey Agricultural Scholarship

Scholars include:

  •       Mrs Emilyn Kopania   Deputy Headmistress at Mercy College, Yarapos (an island off  Wewak Papua New Guinea)

  •       Ms Retno Setyowati Gito   Head, Demography Research Centre, Sebelas Maret  University in Central Java

  •       Dr Lealyn Abellanosa Ramos   Manager, Northern Mindanao, Phillipines

  •       Dr Edilberto Diaz Redona    Deputy Director, Philippine Rice Research Institute

  •       Dr Rustico David   Chief of Regional programs, Philippines Rice Research Institute

  •       Natalino Babo Martins   East Timor

  •       Tababoua Karereiti   Animal Health Section, Ministry of Environment, Lands & agricultural Development, Government of Kiribati

The Blue Boys Reunion

On Tuesday 9 June 2009, the District Governors of 1988-89 came together at the Rotary Club of Essendon to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Royce Abbey becoming Rotary International President and to launch the Royce Abbey Awards for 2009-10.
